History of institution: The Huashan 1914 Creative Park was first discovered by the members of the Golden Bough Theatre in 1997. At the time, the building was a structurally well preserved, abandoned wine factory that was originally built in 1914. The building was initially used as performance space by the theatre group, but it soon drew attention of not only the local community, but also other artists of diverse practices. In 1999, a non-profit NGO named Association of Culture Environment Reform Taiwan was founded to look after the restoration of the abandoned factory into a well-developed art center. The restoration process began in 2004 and the factory was later named as ‘Huashan 1914 Creative Park.’
