Mission:

URS can be understood as a platform, a network or a movement. It is an urban peaceful revolution sparked by urban regeneration sectors. Each URS space is named by its door number, it can be recognized as a workstation, community space, information hub, lounge for coterie, exhibition hall, experience action, shelter for city flâneur, as you define.

There are seven URSs in Taipei now, scattered around the whole city. They serve as “oxygen of creativity” for the city but also grow into a cultural landscape.

It started in 2010 by Urban Redevelopment Taipei city as a promotion project, providing spaces for private organizations.

Policy Objectives:

To embark on area regeneration

It aims to establish revitalization mechanism for sites before redevelopment construction and offer urban redevelopment integration platform. Through advanced station of mission and mobility, the innovative action pattern of URS has pushed waves and urban regeneration.

To introduce creativity and vitality

It aims to attract creative individuals and energy through providing resource, milieu and platform for free inspiration/ imagination on urban regeneration.

To revitalize community network

URS is a base for visible and invisible community re-connecting and re-configure community and urban network.

A sustainable station for regional development

Distinct from regional development promoted by events, URS integrates local networks, induces creativity, and inspire area regeneration. Through tangible public space embedded sustainable development mechanism and creative platform.

URS 155: URBAN ACADEMY, COOKING TOGETHER

Area: 336 m2

Open Hours: 11.00-19.00

Drawing upon the building’s original role as a grocery and traditional Chinese medicine store, the new occupants proposed merging the concept of Cooking Toguether with the streets of da Doo cheng, and transform it into a site that cultivated the cultural and creative industries.

URS 127:  DESIGN GALLERY

Platform for cultural and creative industries in Dadaocheng.

Address:   No.127, Sec. 1, Dihua St., Datong Dist., Taipei City 103

Area: 450 m2

Open Hours: Tue – Fri 9:00-18:00/Sat – Sun 13:00-18:00

 The whole building is a design gallery and provides studio space for young designer. URS127 is managed by Department of Architecture, Tamkang University at present.
The building type is 3 entrance-volume street house, the original usage is a mixed use of traditional retail and residence.

Currently, an architecture studio and a theatre group are stationed there.

URS 44STORY HOUSE

Address:  No.44, Sec. 1, Dihua St., Datong Dist., Taipei City 103

Area: 600 m2

Open Hours: Mon – Fri 10:00-17:00

URS44 is managed by Historical Resources Management Institute at present.It was street house in the corner. It IS a mixed of retail shop and residence.

Adhering to its original purpose of caring for historic resources, the Institute hopes to let people see the appearance of Taipei City’s development.

URS 27:  THE GRAND GREEN

Address:  No.27, Linsen N. Rd., Zhongshan Dist., Taipei City 104

Area: Civic Boulevard and Beiping E. Rd with an area of 2.3 hecto

Open Hours: Mon – Tue 18:00-20:00 / Wed 15:00-19:00 / Thu 16:00-1:00 /
Fri 10:00-14:00 / Sat – Sun 10:00-23:00

It is a new-born site with happy urban life. Through simple greenery and respect on land texture, the site provides trail forward happy life of tomorrow in Taipei.
Original function: The site was Huashan railroad terminal and facilities before the railroad underground reconstruction. The future development is union office for central government.

URS 27W:  FILM RANGE

Open Hours: Tue – Fri 9:00-18:00/Sat – Sun 13:00-18:00

URS27W continues to gather all kind of footage about various topics related to Taipei. Combining local culture, industry, and existing networks, this project aims to uncover local characteristics. It contemplates the cultural characteristic of Taipei and the possibility for recreating the past glamour of Taipei’s west side.

Area: 4,150 m²

Open Hours:  Tue – Fri 10:00-18:00 / Sat – Sun 10:00-20:00

The original function of URS21 was warehouse and distribution centre of Taiwan Tobacco and liquor Cooperation. The building style is early postwar modernism warehouse with special architectural form and space.

Cultivating culture and tradition is always the most important goal. The hopes surrounding URS21 Chung Shan Creative Hub are like seeds. When many of them are sown, they will sprout at different locations at different times, creating imaginations for a beautiful life.

URS 13:  REVIVED VANGUARD

Address: No.13, Sec. 2, Nangang Rd., Nangang Dist., Taipei City 115

Area: 1.6 ha

It serves as an exchange site for urban regeneration promotion. URS13 Revived vanguard provides a dreamland of collective wishes. It was tinplate cap factory of Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Cooperation which contains 16 buildings.

By integrating works of art from the community, artists were able to conduct an even more in-depth method of participation for their works.
